The Jewish colonists will encounter difficulties in the fall if the Jewish Colonization Association and the Agrojoint will not subsidize the agricultural cooperatives. Five thousand roubles are needed by each of the cooperatives in order that they may aid the colonists with small loans, declares the “Emes” of Charkov.
Declaring that the Agrojoint and Ica offices in the Krivoy Rog district are crowded with colonists asking small loans of thirty and forty roubles, the “Emes” says that it is necessary to improve the cooperatives. So far neither organization has assigned special funds for such loans, while the cooperatives’ means have been exhausted, the paper states.
Gardening and poultry farming for the Jewish small town dwellers is the new relief policy decided upon by the Ukrainian government today. Land in the Kamenetz district is to be allotted for the purpose of collective garden and poultry farming. Dairies will also be developed, as will tobacco plantations. Similar collections will also be organized around Uman, Talne and Zweni-gorodka. The new settlers will be granted credits.
