Over $425,000 has already been received by the United Jewish Campaign in response to the appeal of David A. Brown to “borrow and advance” a share of the $3,100,000 emergency fund required by the Joint Distribution Committee for the continuation of its work during the summer months.
Following the lead of Chicago, the first to respond with its advance of $250,000, the Montreal Committee forwarded a check for $20,000; $20,000 was received from the Committee of Portland, Oregon, and $20,000 came from the Jewish National Welfare Fund of San Francisco. The remainder making up the total of $425,000 was received in smaller amounts from various other communities.
While every effort is being made throughout the country to collect in advance the minimum budget of $3,100,000 from the funds already pledged, reports received at the national headquarters of the United Jewish Campaign indicate that many communities which have not as yet subscribed their full quotas are launching their new campaigns.
