Rabbinical Assembly to Hold Annual Convention June 25th in Long Branch

The twenty-eighth annual convention o the Rabbinical Assembly of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, composed of Conservative Rabbis, will open at the Scarboro Hotel, Long Branch, N. J. on June 25.

The program of the sessions which will last three days was made public by Rabbi Louis M. Levitsky of Wilkes-Barre, chairman of the convention.

A symposium on “The Synagogue Today” will occupy the first day’s session. Rabbi A. J. Levy of Philadelphia, will read a paper on “A historical survey of the status of the Synagogue in Jewish Life.” This will be followed by a paper on “The Inadequacies in the status of the Synagogue Today” by Dr. Israel Goldstein of New York, “The Synagague and the Religious School” will be discussed by Rabby Gershon Hadas of New Britain, Conn., and Rabbi Jacob Gittelman of Louisville, Ky., will discuss the “Synagogue and the Y.M.H.A.” “The Synagogue and Palestine” is the subject of a paper by Dr. Norman Salit of Far Rockaway; New York, and Rabbi Alter Landesman of Brooklyn, New York will conclude the discussion with a “Statistical survey of the trend of Synagogue attendance.”

“Conditions of Judaism in the leading Jewish centers in Europe since the war,” will be discussed by Professor Israel. Davidson, who will speak on “General observations on Jewish Life in Europe,” Dr. Solomon Grayzel on “Some phases of Jewish Religious Life in Paris,” Rabbi David Aronson of Minneapolis will report on “Jewish Life in Warsaw since the War,” Rabbi Jesse Bienenfeld of Syracuse, New York, will read a paper on “The Jewish Community of Vienna.” Dr. Kurt Wilhelm of Braunschweig, Germany, will be heard on “German Jewry after the War.” Chief Rabbi Joseph Hertz of England will send a communication on the “Influence of the War on Jews in England.”

Professor Mordecai M. Kaplan will submit a paper on “Judaism as a Civilization,” a paper by Dr. Louis Finkelstein on the subject: “Can Maimonides still guide us?” and Rabbi Simon. Greenberg of Philadelphia, will discuss “Some Aspects of Jewish Nationalism in the Bible.”

“Some problems of Congregational Schools,” will be presented by Rabbi Max Arzt of Scranton, Pa., and Rabbi Samuel Fredman of Philadelphia and Rabbi Goodman A. Rose of Pittsburgh will present “Some observations on the American Rabbinate.” A study of the Junior Synagogue will be reported by Rabbi Jacob B. Grossman of Flushing, Long Island.

Doctor Cyrus Adler the President of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America will speak at the opening session and Professor Alexander Mary will give an estimate of the work of the late D. Chajes of Vienna at a special memorial service.
