A check for £ 2,683 ($13,415) was presented yesterday to Claude Montefiore. outstanding leader of Liberal Judaism in Europe and author of the “Synoptic Gospels,” on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. The deputation which called on Mr. Montefiore yesterday, in presenting the check, declared that it is to be applied for charity, scholarship or education. in accordance with his desires.
A blotter containing the names of the 639 persons in the United States. Palestine, Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden, Australia and India who contributed toward the fund, was also presented to Mr. Montefiore.
