Anti-jewish Offenses Constant in Tunis

The Jews of Zarsis in Tunis are constantly maltreated by the local Arabs. Not a day passes without a Jew being insulted and frequently beaten by an Arab. The Khalif tells the complainant to lodge his complaint with the Commandant and the Commandant advises him to complain to the Khalif.

Even the dead are not spared in Zarsis. At almost every Jewish funeral Arabs throw stones at the funeral procession and hurl insults after the mourners. Only last Monday a case of this kind occurred. At the funeral of Nessim Chelly. all along the route, from the house to the cemetery, there was a continuous volley of stones.

There are many Jews who are running for public office in St. Louis, Mo. The offices are State and Federal Prominent among the candidates is Judge Samuel Rosenfeld, who in response to a request from leading Democrats throughout the state filed as Lieut. Governor. Col. Arthur Freund resigned his position as Police Commissioner in the City of St. Louis and is running in the Republican primaries for Circuit Attorney. Statements of Col. Freund about the office of Circuit Attorney were not held valid as a result of an investigation by the Grand Jury. In a vote by the Bar Association Col. Freund led the Republican field.

Police Court Judge Harry P. Rosecan has filed for Circuit Judge. He was not endorsed by the Bar Association, nor was Samuel A. Bender.

In the Democratic primaries former Judge Moses N. Sale and Samuel H. Lieberman have been endorsed by the Bar Association vote, while Max Baron. another candidate for Circuit Judge did not receive the endorsement. Hyman G. Stein has sied for Court of Appeals.

William S. Gray, who was defeated for nomination for Congressman has again filed. Gray is a Republican. Raymond Hartman. son of Judge Moses Hartman, is another Republican candidate for Congressman.

Dr. Charles B. Grosby is running for Coroner. Morris Katz has filed as state legislator on the Republican ticket.
