(By our Kishineff Correspondent)

In connection with the movement for the organization of the Jewish community in Bessarabia, a Conference was opened here yesterday, ## gates being present from 35 ## in the province. The Provisional ## reported that all attempts to ## understanding with the Ortho## oup headed by Chief Rabbi Zirelson had failed and proposed that the Conference should therefore continue to fight for the establishment of a democratic Jewish Community in Bessarabia. After a very lenghty and heated debate it was decided to send a delegation to Chief Rabbi Zirelson to make a final effort on behalf of the Conference to reach an understanding. A resolution was adopted as the basis of the negotiations suggesting that the Conference called by Rabbi Zirelson for July 3 should be cancelled on the understanding that the democratic group would also cancel its Conference called for July 10 and that Rabbi Zirelson should, in conjunction with this Conference, draft the method of election and fix the date and draw up the agenda of a unified Bessarabian Conference to decide the community question.

After a discussion with Rabbi Zirelson, lasting four hours, the delegation returned and reported that the Rabbi and his group definitely refuse to arrive at an understanding with the democratic group. The Conference there upon decided to declare itself the legitimate and sovereign representation of Bessarabian Jewry and elected a permanent committee to take the necessary steps with the authorities and the Jewish organizations to secure a speedy ratification of the Statutes of the Jewish Community.

The Orthodox group is meanwhile making preparations for the holding of its Conference on July 3.

The Regency Council it is stated has decided to confer on Rabbi Jehudah Leib Zirelson Chief Rabbi of Bessarabia the Order of Commander of the Star of Roumania, which confers upon the Chief Rabbi the rank and privileges in civilian life corresponding to those of a General in military life.

For sevral days now. Jews walking in the city park at evening have been attacked by young men. Police enquiries have established that the assailants are students attending the Theological Faculty. The Jewish city Councillors have made representations to the authorities who have promised to take steps to put a stop to these attacks.
