The Jewish communities in Transylvania, which have suffered from the anti-Semitic excesses perpetrated by Roumanian students in December, 1927 have not received a single penny from the indemnity allotments made by the Roumanian government for the synagogues and institutions which were destroyed during the riots.
This complaint was voiced at the annual meeting of the Federation of Liberal Jewish Communities in Transylvania, held several days ago.
The conference also discussed the recent proclamation issued by the Roumanian Minister of the Interior, Duca on the occasion of the visit of Mr. Leon Fisher of New York vice-president of the United Roumanian Jews of America. Astonishment was expressed at the fact that the Minister of the Interior declared in his proclamation that the Roumanian Jews must “have patience” and failed to include in the proclamation a sentence urging the authorities to treat the Jewish population with trust and patience.
