The largest of the $1,305,000 public bequests made by the late Aaron Naunburg will go to the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies of New York City and the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.
Mr. Naumburg. the president and treasurer of Jonas Naumberg Corporation. unanufacturers of hatters’ furs. died June 29 at Bagni Montecatini, Italy, leaving an estate estimated at more than $5,000.000. He started to work fifty-six years ago. his first week’s salary being $3.
At the death of the widow $1,000,000 reverts to the residue which will be divided among relatives and charities.
After deducting $750,000 for various institutions. the remainder is to be distributed among Mr. Naumburg’s next of-kin. The Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies. which also receives $250,000, will get one-half of the residuary interest, and the Catholic Charities. to which an outright bequest of $150,000 is made, receives one-fifth.
Five per cent goes to the Young Women’s Hebrew Association and the remainder in equal shares to the following: The John B. Stetson Hospital at Philadelphia, which also receives $10,000; the Home for the Aged of the Little Sisters of the Poor. which also gets $10,000; the Henry Street Settlement. the Society of Friends, the House of the Good Shepherd, Servants of Relief for Incurable Cancer. Hawthorne. N. Y.: the American Museum of Natural History. the Philharmonic Society. the National Urban League. Harvard University, to be applied to the purposes of the Fogg Art Museum: Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. of Tuskegee. Ala.: the Holy Name Mission for the Bowery District, Inc,. and the Young Men’s Hebrew Association of New York City.
The specific bequests to the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies and to the Catholic Charities are to be called “the Aaron Naumburg Fund.”
The Holv Name Mission. the Society of Friends. the Servants of Relief for Incurable Cancer and the Salvation Army also receive $20,000 each. The Charity Chest of the Fur Industry of New York. which Mr. Naumburg founded. receives $50.000. and the American Academy in Rome $5,000.
