The flood caused by the cyclone sweeping over the far eastern area is increasing in the Michailosemenovsk and Ekaterina Nikolsk districts, the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here learned from government sources. In the latter district, where the Amur is now 860 centimeters higher than normal, communication has been cut off to the rice plantations where there are Jewish settlers.
The Bidzhan Lake and the Bira River have risen 35 centimeters. The flood is reaching the settlement Nadezhdinsk. In Chabarovisk hunger is reported, also a lack of wood and coal for the steamers. Blagoveshtshensk and Sachalin were almost totally destroyed, the damages being estimated at 10,000,000 roubles.
The Council of People’s Commissars assigned another 1,000,000 roubles for relief.
The true situation of the Jewish settlers is impossible to establish because there is only one telegraph line in operation. this one being from Chabarovsk. Reports from Tichonkoye, Ekaterina Nikolsk, Bira and other Jewish points can reach Chabarovsk only by boat and messenger. However. it is known that they have a sufficient food supply.
