Refuses to Accept Telegram in Yiddish, Loses Post

(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Refusal to accept a telegram in Yiddish, written in Russian characters, cost a Russian post office official his position.

The Assistant Manager of the Second Branch of the Moscow post office was dismissed when he refused to accept the Yiddish telegram. The government has repeatedly issued instructions that telegrams in Yiddish are to be accepted for transmission if written in Russian characters.
