August Zaleski, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, opposed the proposal for creation by the League of a permanent national minorities commission, in speaking on the subject in the League of Nations Assembly.
He was opposed to it, he stated, in view of the fact that the national minorities clause in the peace treaties does not provide for such a commission. He also drew attention to the resolution adopted at the conference of the League of Nations Societies Union, recently held at The Hague, wherein it was demanded that the national minorities clauses be applied not only to the newly created and enlarged states following the World War, but they should be equally binding upon all states who are members of the League of Nations.
