Three Lithuanian officials in Wolkowishki, Lithuania, where serious anti-Jewish excesses occurred last week, resulting in 20 injured, were dismissed from their posts by an order of the Kovno government.
The officials will soon be tried. The three, the secretary of the County Council, the tax inspector and the detective in charge of the criminal division of the local police, were charged with organizing the anti-Jewish riot. It was said to be the first instance of the Lithuanian government taking drastic measures against those responsible for anti-Jewish disturbances.
The elections to the Sick Fund, a semi-official welfare organization, which were originally scheduled to be held on Rosh Hashanah and later postponed for Yom Kippur when the Jewish members protested, have now been set for October 7, which is Simchath Torah, the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles.
