A campaign for funds and members throughout the state for the Portland Home for the Hebrew Aged, which is expected to cost about $75,000, will be launched after the holidays. The site was selected and land purchased in June 1927. As a result of the campaign, construction of the building is expected to begin shortly.
With the Jewry of Maine in urgent need of such a building, it is expected that the campaign for funds to pay for the building and members to maintain the institution will be successful.
Solomon C. Kraus of Philadelphia who died July 29 at Atlantic City, left bequests of $2,000 each to the Eagleville Sanitarium for the cure of tuberculosis, the Federation of Jewish Charities, the Hebrew Orphan’ Home, Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Jewish Hospital. The bulk of the estate, believed to be close to $1,000,000, was left to members of Mr. Kraus’ immediate family, according to the will, just probated in Philadelphia.
