Communist and Orthodox Clash on Yom Kippur

(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Several arrests were made by the police Sunday evening when a group of Jewish Communists attempted to hold a mass meeting in the neighborhood of a synagogue to campaign against Yom Kippur.

The Orthodox resented the affront and a clash occurred. The meeting was dispersed.

On Monday at noon the Communists made an attempt to interfere with the services in the synagogue and a free for all fight again developed. The police again intervened, arresting several. The synagogues in the city were guarded by policemen during the remainder of the day.
