Field Marshall Viscount Allenby, conqueror of Jerusalem, who was invited by the American Legion to come to the United States arrived in New York yesterday on the steamer Majestic accompanied by Lady Allenby.

Dr. Stephen S. Wise was on the Mayor’s Reception Committee launch, Macom, which met the distinguished guests at quarantine.

“My friendly attitude toward the rebuilding of Palestine as the Jewish National Home is well known to the Jewish people throughout the world. This attitude will not be changed,” Viscount Allenby declared.

When asked for his opinion concerning the action of the Jerusalem police at the Wailing Wall on Yorn Kippur, Viscount Allenby expressed regret at the occurrence. “It is regrettable that the Jerusalem police acted tactlessly on that occasion.”

While in New York Lord and Lady Allenby will be the guests of Charles Crane. On Thursday morning the Zionist Organization will tender him a reception in the Italian Gardens of the Ambassador Hotel. Louis Marshall will make an address.

Viscount Allenby will be the guest of honor at a luncheon to be given Thursday by Nathan Straus, Dr. Stephen S. Wise and Judge Julian W. Mack.
