A Jewish manufacturer, Funk, and fifteen of his associates were given prison sentences on charges of speculation brought against them. Funk was sentenced to five years imprisonment and confiscation of his property. His bookkeeper was sentenced to four years, his lawyer, Falk, to one year. Thirteen of his associates received prison terms of from one to three years. Eight of these were granted amnesty and released.
BOLIVIA HONORS KAUFMAN, AMERICAN MINISTER
David E. Kaufman, of Towanda, Pr., United States minister to Bolivia, was given the grand cross of the order “Condor De Los Andes”, an Associated Press despatch from La Paz states. In making the presentation, the foreign minister declared that the decoration was merited by Mr. Kaufman’s demonstration of friendship for Bolivia and his efficient labors to promote her relations with the United States.
Mr. Kaufman is the first American to receive the grand cross. The only other foreigners holding the decoration are the Japanese emperor, the king of Belgium, Premier Poincaire of France, and Cardinal Gasparri, papal secretary of state.

SEVERAL HUNDRED ASKED TO PALESTINE CONFERENCE
A formal invitation to the Non-Zionist Conference, to be held at the Hotel Biltmore, New York, on October 20-21, was issued yesterday by Mr. Louis Marshall, Chairman, to several hundred representative Jews all over the country.
The text of the invitation follows: “Louis Marshall, Chairman, requests the honor of your presence at the Non-Zionist Conference to be held at the Biltmore Hotel, New York City, Saturday evening, October 20, and Sunday, October 21, for the purpose of acting on the report of the Palestine Joint Survey Commission, and to take measures for the organization of the proposed enlarged Jewish Agency.”
Utica’s first woman alderman is Mrs. Lena Goldbas, widow of Solomon R. Goldbas, who died on Yom Kippur. She succeeds her husband, by appointment of Mayor Fred J. Rath. She is a daughter of the late Rev. Louis Levine, former Utica cantor.
