Governor Alfred E. Smith, in his address in Newark Wednesday evening, made clear his stand on the question of immigration, in the following words:

“Another attempt on the part of the Republican managers is to try to fool the American people on my attitude to the present restrictions in the immigration law. They whisper around: ‘Smith will open up the flood gates. If elected, he will let Europe run all over the United States.’

“Well, of course, that again, to my way of thinking, is a kind of insult to the intelligence of the American people. The Democratic platform that I was nominated on clearly said that we will not let down the bars one inch on the restrictive measures in the immigration law. I said that in my speech of acceptance, and that ought to settle it. But it is awfully hard to settle a man or a party who starts who starts out deliberately to misrepresent and deliberately to fool the people.”

The Southern Region of the United Palestine Appeal will from now on be under the supervision of Samuel Blitz, as Regional Director, according to an announcement made by Dr. I. M. Rubinow, Executive Director of the United Palestine Appeal. Mr. Blitz will take the place of Dr. Leo J. Frachtenberg, who will be the Regional Director of the Chicago territory.

Mr. Blitz has been affiliated with the Zionist Organization for many years, acting, during that time, as Direcotor of the Organization Department. During the last year, he was Director of the New York City United Palestine Appeal Campaign.
