The leading Yeshiva in Soviet Russia, established in Nevel, District of Vitebsk, by Rabbi Schneursohn, the Lubawitscher Rebbe, and several elementary schools, Chedarim, were closed and their leaders arrested, states a report today of the Rosta, official Soviet news agency.
The Rosta report declares that “Jewish capitalists abroad subsidized the Yeshiva.” Three kehillahs which have maintained Chedarim have been liquidated and the Houses of Study converted into Communist clubs.
