Henry Ottenberg’s Widow Leaves $500,000 to New York Charitable Institutions

A new Jewish home or charitable organization or a wing to an existing Jewish institution will be crected with an amount of nearly $500,000 provided for this purpose in the will of Mrs. Mollie Ottenberg, widow of Henry Ottenberg, tobacco merchant, it was revealed by her will filed for probate on Thursday. The structure is to be named in memory of Mrs. Ottenberg, her husbaud and Abraham Sundheimer, her first husband.

The fund is to go to the New York Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies after the death of the two sons, Ira Ottenberg of Los Angeles and Sylvan Sunheimer of St Louis, who get the income from the estate during their lives.

Two other sons, Malcolm Sumner and William A. Sundheimer, receive bequests of approximately $250,000 out right. Eight Jewish organizations also receive $500 cash by the will.

In a report submitted to the Dominion Camp Chief of the Boy Scouts Association, Ottawa, Scoutinaster A. M. Machlovitch, who is also the secretary of the Jewish Advisory Committee of the Montreal District of the boy Scouts, Association, noted that 115 Jewish boy scouts in Montreal attended the general boy scout camp this year, the Jewish boys being provided with Kosher meals, and Sabath morning services being kept up for the whole camping season. A keen interest in general boy scout activities in which the Jewish troops play a considerate role is seen.

There are seven Jewish boy scout troops in Montreal, four wolf cub packs and one Jewish Rover Patrol, the first Jewish Rover Patrol, the first Jewish Rover Patrol in Canada. The Jewish members of the Boy Scouts Association are also under the supervision of the Jewish Advisory Committee, of which Dr. H. Abramawitz is the chairman.
