An appeal against the recent municipal ordinance for the closing of all bakeries not operating with mechanical devices and machines was presented at the Sejm session by the Club of Jewish Deputies.

The carrying into effect this ordinance would affect two-thirds of all the bakeries. The 2,000 bakeries thus affected could not immediately be substituted by new, machine-equipped bakeries, the Jewish deputies argued.

Many thousands of families would remain without a livelihood if the bakeries are forced to close, they stated.

A suggestion was presented that the government grant subventions to the bakeries, enabling them to install the required machinery.
