“The American Jew is in danger of losing his native, essential cultural traditions which sanctified life,” declared Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, of Cleveland, in an address delivered at the second annual Chanukah dinner of the Metropolitan Conference of Temple Brotherhoods at the Hotel Astor, Monday night. More than 1,500 members and guests of Brotherhoods in Greater New York, Mt. Vernon, Long Island and New Jersey attended the dinner.
Addresses also were delivered by Charles P. Kramer, chairman of the Metrapolitan Conference; Blanche P. Gold-farb, president of the New York State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods; Ben Altheimer, representing the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; and Roger W. Straus, president of the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods, who acted as toastmaster. Mr. Straus stated that the latter organization now includes 120 Brotherhoods and Men’s Clubs with a total membership of 20,000 and that 22 groups were represented at the dinner.
