Colonel Wedgwood Asks If Land Tax Has Been Stabilized (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The Colonial Office was asked in the House of Commons today, whether the land tax had been stabilized in the Jewish colonies of Palestine. If it has not yet been done, Col. Josiah Wedgwood, who brought up the subject, asked the reason why not and whether the tithe system is still operating.
Captain Margeson, replying for the government, stated that the system of commuted tithes is still in an experimental stage. He is unaware whether it has already been extended to all the Jewish colonies, but certain experimental districts had been chosen by the High Commissioner. In other districts the tithe is still in force.
