A meeting of prominent leaders has been called for Saturday night with a view to settling the dispute between rabbis and cantors on the right to perform marriages.

It is not likely that the matter will be taken out of the courts unless quick action is taken before next Wednesday when twelve cantors have been summoned to appear before Judge Bolster on the charge of illegally performing marriages.

Rabbi Landau, secretary of the Union of Orthodox Congregations, declined to comment on the situation. Moses Mishel, president of Temple Mishkan Tefilah, and president of the Associated Jewish Congregations of Boston stated to the correspondent of the “Jewish Daily Bulletin” that his organization had no part in the summoning of the twelve cantors to court. Mr. Mishel termed the action taken as unwarranted.
