An article appearing today in the “Juedische Liberale Zeitung” by Heinrich Stern, president of the Association of Liberal Jews in Germany, caused a mild sensation in Zionist circles here.
The president of the Association deals with the present negotiations for enlisting German non-Zionists in the extended Jewish Agency for the rebuilding of Palestine as the Jewish national home. He declares that before definite action is taken by the German non-Zionists, it is essential that misunderstandings be removed and that the way be paved jor joint work in Pales-tile. The non-Zionists in Germany, the writer declares, will be willing to recognize the idea of the Jewish national home in Palestine, but they could not under any circumstances agree to the nationalist conception of Jewish life outside Palestine. The Jewish national home is intended for those Jews who will live in Palestine, while the Jews of the countries termed by the Zionists as Diaspora should retain their complete national, religious and legal independence of Palestine. If the Zionists agree to this division, then cooperation between the Zionists and the non-Zionists is possible, he declares.
