Universities and colleges on the Pacific Coast have recognized the knowledge of the Hebrew language as credit for admission to the institutions of learning, it was announced by the Portland Hebrew School here.
Dr. F. L. Griffin of the administration committee of Reed College, Portland, Oregon, stated: “It is a pleasure to report that the faculty of Reed College voted to recognize the study of Hebrew in the Portland Hebrew School as the equivalent of two years of foreign language study in the high schools.”
The other institutions of higher learning that have expressed themselves favorably are: Oregon State Agricultural College, Corvallis, Oregon; University of California, Berkeley; University of Washington, and University of Oregon.
Abe Rosenstein is the president of the Portland Hebrew School, Joseph Shemanski is the president of the Jewish Educational Association, and Bert I. Treiger is the principal of the Portland Hebrew School.
