The assertion that many American Jews can be converted to Christianity if “the proper education method” is employed was made by the Rev. Thomas Burgess, secretary of the department of national council, in an address he delivered at the annual Synod of the province of New York, New Jersey and Porto Rico of the Protestant Episcopal Church in convention here.
Rev. Burgess submitted a paper on “The Church’s Work Among the Foreign Born” and stated that there are 3,000,000 Jews in the province of the Synod, many of whom can be converted.
A resolution urging a vigorous campaign to convert Jews to Christianity was offered and evoked a spirited discussion. The resolution was referred to a committee for consideration and proper action.
The Synod also decided on a “mail order” method of bringing the teachings of the Episcopalian church to those in the isolated sections of the country who do not go to church.
