The “Jewish debate” in the Roumanian parliament came to an end Friday when the House concluded its general discussion on the throne message.
Minister of Justice Junian gave a pointed reply to the charges made in the House by the former Minister of the Interior Octavian Goga, against the Maniu government for its alliance with the Zionists.
Junian stated that Mr. Goga’s anti-Semitic conceptions are totally without foundation. The Roumanian students, the declared, wish to pursue their studies peacefully and they do it, if they are not tampered with from other quarters. The Roumanian government has recognized the ineffectiveness of the policy pursued by the previous government, which was cooperating with the Union of Roumanian Jews of Bucharest. The present government decided, therefore, to support the candidates of the Zionist movement, which was endorsed and is being participated in by many outstanding leaders of many countries. “It is comical,” the Minister of Justice said, “to see Mr. Goga suddenly in the position of a defender of the Union of Roumanian Jews against the Zionists.
Deputy Josef Fischer, a Zionist, who participated in the debate lauded the Maniu government for its course. It has determined to treat all citizens on a par, which will also redound to the credit to Roumania abroad, he said.
