Dr. William S. Friedman, rabbi of Temple Emanuel and founder of the National Jewish Hospital, was elected president of the hospital association at the annual meeting held here.
Other officers elected were Harry S. Lapidus, Omaha, Neb, first vice-president; Morton May, St. Louis, second vice-president Berthold Flesher, of Denver, third vice-president; Herman Wiler, of Buffalo, N. Y., fourth vice-president; Harmon August, of New York, fifth vice-president, E. J. Schanfarber of Columbus, Or, sixth vice-president.
Ben Altheimer, of New York, who has been national treasurer of the institution ever since its beginning almost 30 years ago, was re-elected for life. Paul Felix Warburg of New York was chosen to fill the new office of assistant national treasurer.
Mrs. Seraphine Pisko, of Denve continues as executive secretary, to which post she was elected for life 10 years ago. Commodore Louis D. Beaumont, New York, is Honorary President for life.
In addition to the officers, those who will serve on the next executive committee are Alfred A. Benesch, Cleveland; Alfred M. Cohen, Cincinnati; N. L. Dauby, Cleveland; Max Fresch Milwaukee; Sol S. Kiser, Indianapolis and William B. Woolner, Peoria.
Judge Samuel D. Levy of the Children’s Court of New York was made chairman of the N. Y. Committee of the hospital. Serving with him will be Major Ochs Adler, vice chairman Mrs. Alexander Kohut, secretary Henry Heming, assistant secretary and Paul Felix Warburg, treasurer.
The hospital closed its last fiscal year with a deficit of $52,000, according to the report of Berthold Fleshe chairman of the national finance committee, who urged that efforts be redoubled this year to make up this amount.
Among the reports was that of Ernest Morris, chairman of the vocational and rehabilitation committee who described the work of the hospital school for children and adults. The children’s school is recognized by the Denver Board of Education.
A budget of $500,000 was approve for the coming year for the hospital.
