The extremely low temperature throughout Europe has caused hardship and tremendous need in many Jewish communities.
The Warsaw community distributed coal, wood, meals and tea to many needy families. Special field Kitchens were set up in many Jewish streets. The kitchens were provided by the military authorities.
In Kovno, Lithuania, the situation in the hunger stricken districts is catastrophic. Many are unable to find work and are without any means of livelihood. Hunger increases the suffering from the unusual cold.
