B’nai B’rith Lodges Extended to China

With the inauguration of Lodge No. 1102 of the Independent Order B’nai B’rith in Shanghai, China, to which G. E. Sokolsky was elected president, the B’nai B’rith lodges are now established in countries throughout the world, according to a report received at the international headquarters of the Order here.

In Germany, one Jew out of every 38 is a member of the I. O. B. B., it was declared. In England, the proportion is one in every 350, while in the United States one Jew in every 760 belongs to the B’nai B’rith.

Plans for creating new lodges in England and Ireland were discussed at a recent meeting of the District Grand Lodge of Great Britain, according to a report received at headquarters here.

Reports from various lodges of the B’nai B’rith in the United States show that lodges are at present devoting a good deal of their activities to the promotion of Jewish community centers. The local B’nai B’rith lodge in Passaic, N. J. is working with the committee for the reestablishment of a community center there. In Rock Island, Ill., the B’nai B’rith lodge has joined in the movement.

The Kokomo, Ind. lodge was recently reorganized under the name of Abraham Thalman Lodge No. 900. Frank Nerenburg was elected president.
