Dr. Mayer Wilderman, a Bessarabian Jew, was a step nearer to his victory in his suit against German and English companies, now pending before the Hague tribunal.
The Roumanian Court of Appeals, after hearings which lasted for several months, recognized Dr. Wilderman’s claim to Roumanian citizenship which he had been previously granted, but which he subsequently lost during the Bratianu regime by a special decree issued by Minister of the Interior Octavian Goga.
It was explained that the progress of Dr. Wilderman’s suit against the Enlish and German companies was blocked by the uncertainty of his status, as the international court could not take up the case unless the plaintiff was a citizen of a recognized nation. It was further stated that the withdrawal of citizenship by a special decree was due to pressure exercised by one of the governments interested in the suit.
