Execute Flogging Sentence on Jack Nafte

The sentence imposed by Judge Saul Solomon on Jack Nafte, South African Jewish farmer, of ten lashes, was executed today. Nafte was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and ten lashes for flogging to death a native, found guilty of insulting a white woman.

The flogging sentence, the first to be executed against a white man, aroused wide opposition throughout South Africa and was the subject of an appeal to the superior court. The court declined to set aside the flogging sentence.
