For the second time in two weeks a hold-up was attempted yesterday at the Congregation Bhevra Bnai Israel, at 77 East 114th Street, when three men waylaid Morris Licht, president of the congregation, in a vestibule of the building at 7 A. M., immediately following the morning services.
Demanding the collections of the week-end, under the threat of physical violence, the thieves, who were armed with knives, fled when alarmed by the entrance into the building of another member of the congregation.
Pursued by a patrolman, two of the robbers escaped, while the third, Arturo Cavasso, collapsed from a bullet wound inflicted by the policeman, and is now unconscious in the Harlem Hospital.
On July 10, Mr. Licht declared, five men held up a meeting of the Neighborhood Business League Corporation in the synagogue, at which he was present, escaping with $500 in cash and personal valuables.
