A move is being made in this city by a group of local prominent Jewish people for the erection of a new, enlarged orthodox synagogue.

PRESENT BUT NOT IN OFFICIAL CAPACITY (COMMUNICATION TO THE EDITOR)

Sir:

We wish to advise you that the United Roumanian Jews of America did not tender any dinner to Mr. Cretzianu, the Roumanian Minister, to Washington.

According to the enclosed menu you will see that our Organization had nothing to do with it.

That dinner was arranged by friends and admirers of the Minister and about 75 were present. Messrs. Siegelstein, Kanter, Fischer and myself participated but in no official capacity.

H. SPEIER,

Executive Secretary,

United Roumanian Jews of America.

New York, July 29, 1929.

(The impression that the United Roumanian Jews of America had tendered the dinner to Mr. Cretzianu was conveyed in the official release of the sponsors. The information was conveyed to the “Jewish Daily Bulletin” by Mr. I. Rosenthal, technical counsellor to the Roumanian Legation. The presence of the president, vice-president and secretary of the United Roumanian Jews of America, one must say, gave sufficient cause for the misunderstanding that their participation was in their official capacity.-Ed.)
