Congressman Samuel Dickstein despatched the following telegram to Secretary Stimson: “May I appeal to you in the name of the American people, some of whom have relatives and are innocent victims of this massacre, to call upon the British ambassador and obtain a detailed report and what steps the British government has taken to stop these brutal assaults.”
To Sir Esme Howard, British Ambassador, he telegraphed: “As a member of the Congress of United States, I do here by make protest against such cowardly acts of Arabs and respectfully appeal to your Excellency that your government immediately take steps to terminate these brutalities through its great police force and bring to punishment the guilty who perpetrated these acts and assure the civilized world that these horrible assaults will not reoccur.”
