Prominent American Jews Join Palestine Relief Fund Committee

David A. Brown, chairman of the Palestine Emergency Fund, yesterday announced appointment of the following as the Executive Committee, after consultation with Dr. David A. Kaliski, acting president of the Zionist Organization of America, and the officers of the Joint Distribution Committee:

Dr. Cyrus Adler, David M. Bressler, Gedaliah Bublick, Miss Juliette Benjamin, Harry Fierst, of Mt. Vernon, Jonah J. Goldstein, Chaim Greenberg, Dr. James Heller, Cincinnati, Mrs. Ruth Halperin, Dr. David Kaliski, Lt. Gov. Herbert H. Lehman, Abraham Liebowitz, James N. Rosenberg, Hon. Nelson Ruttenberg, Mrs. Zip Szold, Peter Vienick, Berel Zuckerman. Isidore D. Morrison is chairman of the executive committee which will hold its first meeting at the Belmont Hotel at three o’clock today.

Mr. Brown announced that contributions received Friday, were in execess of $22,000 which carries the fund past the $100,000 mark.

Mr. Brown announced that through the courtesy of Florenz Ziegfield, Eddie Cantor, who contributed $500, had arranged a special performance of “Whoopee,” at the New Amsterdam Theatre, for Sunday evening, September 8th, for the benefit of the fund. The theatre is being donated by A. L. Erlanger and all the musicians, and stage hands are donating their services, the net proceeds of the box office going to the fund.

Among the large contributions received today was one of $5,000 from Adolph S. Ochs, $3,300 from the Providence Committee of the Palestine Emergency Fund. $3,000 from the Cincinnati Palestine Emergency Fund, $1,000 from the Montreal Fund, through Lyon Cohen, who has accepted chairmanship and is arranging a mass meeting to be held shortly, Among the $1,000 contributions was that of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Guggenheimer.

Mr. Brown announced also that a very large number of meetings were being arranged throughout the country for the Palestine Emergency Fund.
