Dr. Solomon Alkalay, president of the Sephardic Jewish community of Belgrade, died here today.
The late Dr. Alkalay was one of the leading gynecologists of Europe and rendered distinguished services as an army physician during the World War. He was president of the Jugoslavian section of the Sephardic World Organization and president of the Belgrade lodge of the Independent Order B’nai Brith.
With his brother, Rabbi Alkalay, Chief Rabbi of Jugoslavia, he was a delegate to the first Zionist Congress. He had always been an active Zionist worker.
The Jugoslavian press today contains many laudatory statements on the late Dr. Alkalay.
