A piquant quarrel whose setting is in the British courts, is now in progress between Oscar Slater, who was released recently after eighteen years imprisonment on a murder charge, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, one of the principal protagonists in the fight for his release during that entire period.
Conan Doyle has initiated court proceedings to recover 250 pounds from Slater. Conan Doyle guaranteed 1,000 pounds to defray the expenses of Slater’s trial. 700 pounds of which were raised through subscriptions among the Jews. Despite the fact that Slater received 6,000 pounds, he has refused to pay the balance due Doyle.
