The Committee on Good-Will Between Jews and Christians intends to continue and also to expand its work, according to a statement made public yesterday by Bishop Francis J. McConnell, president of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America. The program for 1930 in the field of Jewish-Christian relations will be more extensive than ever before. The statement read:
“Some misunderstandings have arisen regarding the policies and the future of the Committee on Goodwill Between Jews and Christians of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America.
“The work of the Committee will not only continue, but indeed, our program for 1930 will reach more churches, schools and colleges throughout the nation than ever before in the history of our study and activity in the field of Jewish Christian relations.
“The Committee on Goodwill Between Jews and Christians is a channel for the communication of ideas and ideals, ends and aims, technique and procedures. In this sense it is an important social instrument in establishing a community of minds among two significant American groups-Protestant Christians and Jews. The Committee works among the constituent churches of the Council to educate Christians about Judaism; to construct more desirable attitudes toward Jews; and to improve our relationships with Jews. The Committee has absolutely no proselytizing interest, intent, or effect.”
