The trial of ten Communists arrested on August 3 for resisting the police during an illegal demonstration was concluded today. Six were acquitted and four sentenced to three months imprisonment each. They are to serve one month each, having spent two months in prison before trial which was postponed owing to the disturbances in the country.
A tumultuous scene took place in the courtroom when the prisoners refused to be handcuffed, saying they are willing to go to prison peacefully. They are political prisoners and handcuffs were, therefore, unwarranted, they declared. The judge replied that it was a police matter, whereupon policemen handcuffed the prisoners but not before they were overpowered and thrown to the floor. The noise attracted policemen outside the court, some of whom broke in through a window and drew their revolvers. Forty British and Palestine police were in the courtroom before the scene ended.
