The cornerstone of the new Progress Club building was laid last week in Newark. The club has been in existence for 57 years and its roster includes the most prominent Jewish business and professional men of the city. Morris Scheck, president, presided at the ceremonies, at which the speakers were Rabbi Solomon Foster. City Commissioner John Howe and Uzal H. McCarter, president of the Fidelity Union Trust Company.

The Rosh Hashanah holiday marked the official opening of the Jewish Community Center of Summit, N. J. Synagogue services will be held there regularly every Sabbath. Jacob R. Mantel is president of the institution.
