Stern, Vice-president Education Board, Dies

M. Samuel Stern, vice-president of the Board of Education for the last six years and a member for all but three years of the last quarter century, died Monday. He was 63 years old.

On the Board of Education Mr. Stern was particularly active in matters of finance and the construction and care of schools.

The flags on all school and administration buildings will fly at half staff for thirty days to honor the late Mr. Stern.

The son of Lazarus Stern and Fannie Strauss, Mr. Stern was born in New York City on May 31, 1866.

Dr. William J. O’Shea, Superintendent of the New York City Schools, paid tribute to Mr. Stern’s work on the education and pension boards. The funeral will take place tomorrow from the Park Avenue Temple, Rabbi Gabriel Shulman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
