Chief Rabbi’s Property Again Subject to Tax

A tragicomic epilogue to the recent confiscation of the property of the Chief Rabbinate by the government for failure to pay overdue taxes, and which was bought up at public auction by the Jews of the city who donated it to the Rabbinate, came today when the government imposed new taxes on the Rabbinate’s property because the furniture, utensils and other articles constituted a new donation and hence are liable to taxation.
