That the attempt on the life of Norman Bentwich Attorney General of Palestine, was not an accident, but the result of a plot, was revealed last night by the Attorney General himself, in a message read by Dr. Magnes, at the opening lecture of the extension courses in music of the Hebrew University, at which the Attorney General was scheduled to preside.
Concluding with, “I beg all people to make no protests, complaints or representations to the Government,” Mr. Bentwich’s message said. “Nothing serious has happened. But if it can be the means of opening the road to peace, it will be for the good. I am sure that we shall have to find the way toward peace and that we can find it. The sooner we give up all recrimination, the sooner the way will be found.”
The message reveals that the attempt on his life was not a mere accident, but the result of a plot by disturbers of peace, “whom such a dastardly attack may finally convince of the criminal folly and futility of their ways.”
Professor Schor, in his inaugural address, stated that “this most brazen attack on Mr. Bentwich will be the last if the Government does not wish to declare itself defeated in its attempt to stamp out lawlessness from which none can escape, since it is rumored that both the High Commissioner and the Chief Secretary of the Palestine Government are among the recipients of threatening letters.” (Continued on Page 1)
