Numerus Clausus Not Favored by Masaryk, Says No Solution

President Masaryk of Czecho-Slovakia, is emphatically opposed to the introduction of numerus clausus in the Czecho-Slovakian universities. In an interview today in the “Prager Tageblatt,” Masaryk stated that numerus clausus is a mechanically unjust means which does not solve the problem of overcrowding in the universities. Only the government, the university authorities and parliament are empowered to reform the situation and student demonstrations. He pointed out that the numerus clausus question will automatically disappear when the university authorities will consider more stringent admission rules and in examining entrants admit only the most qualified.
