Two thousand people crowded the Civic Repertory Theatre in New York Sunday while other thousands were turned away at the reception given to Peretz Hirschbein by the Yiddish Culture Society. In a speech lasting an hour and a half Peretz Hirschbein described the situation of the Jews all over the world. He has just returned from a five-year trip around the world. Hirschbein laid special stress on the fate of the Jews in Palestine and Russia.
While admiring the pioneer spirit of Palestine he said he deplored the Jewish chauvinism there which is resulting in Arab antagonism. He was enthusiastic about Soviet Russia where he declared the Jews were being regenerated. He made an appeal for Jewish colonization, especially for Bira Bidjan where the Jews have a great future, he declared.
