Rabbi to Be Tried for Spreading Faise Rumors

Rabbi Yarchon, well-known in White Russia, has been arrested in Minsk, together with 11 other Jews, and will be tried on a charge of spreading panicky rumors and of speculation. A week ago a rumor spread in Minsk that no kerosene was available and the population began making reservations. Now the police have found 12 gallons of kerosene and several pud flour in the rabbi’s house. With these findings as the basis, he will be tried for speculation and instigation of false rumors. Twelve Jewish workers of Minsk will be expelled from their unions for signing a paper that the local rabbi. Osher Kershstein, is not earning a living and hence cannot pay taxes.
