In connection with the coming visit to the United States of Prof. Niculai Jorga, noted Roumanian scholar, Dr. William Filderman, president of the Union of Roumanian Jews, has appealed to the Roumanian Jews of America to receive Professor Jorga with enthusiasm.
The following is the text of Dr. Filderman’s appeal:
“The Roumanian Jews of America know Professor Niculai Jorga. Many generations of Jewish students have received the benefits of the learning of this great scholar, and not only the Jews in Roumania, but the Jews of the world over, have had the opportunity to admire the qualities of Professor Jorga, and know that in the great struggle which we have had since the war, we have always had the support and kind word of this generous and wise man.
“Convinced that the progress of Roumania depends upon the brotherly cooperation of all her citizens, without distinction, and that her good name abroad is based upon culture and civilization, Professor Jorga has propagated by word of mouth and his writings, the great idea of brotherhood and cooperation. In the constructive work of Roumania, he has, as a man of science and as a statesman, and in more recent times as Dean of the University of Bucharest, fought against race hatred, condemning the false prophets and their deeds.
“The Roumanian Jews of America will undoubtedly receive Professor Jorga with enthusiasm and with all the honors due this great scholar, the ambassador of Roumanian science and the apostle of humanity and brotherhood. You who have been on Roumanian soil, and who are interested in the welfare of the country where dwell your parents and brothers, now have the occasion to manifest the sentiment that binds you to our country; Professor Jorga is amongst you.”
