A committee, consisting of Deputies Eisenstein, Farbstein, Rosmarin, Rasner and Davidsohn, was appointed by the Jewish Deputies Club (Kola) to prepare a tax project. This action was taken after Deputy Gruenbaum had discussed the tax question at a meeting of the Kola.
Gruenbaum showed that the preliminary government budget prepared for this year is no different in character from the one prepared last year, and that the main tax burden this year as last will rest upon the city population. He did, however, say that the assignment of 150,000 zlotys for Jewish purposes, outside of religious needs, in the budget, showed that the Jewish demands upon the government had had some effect.
On the whole, however, he said, the policy of economic extermination waged against the Jews in the cities is being continued. The efforts of the Jewish “Kola” to change the tax system have been unsuccessful, mainly because of lack of unity in formulating Jewish demands. Gruenbaum suggested that a questionnaire be sent out among Jewish economic groups so that the Jewish deputies might better formulate their demands for tax reform.
