Archibald J. Freiman, prominent Canadian department store owner and president of the Canadian Zionist Organization, wired the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today that it was “with sincere feelings of sympathy and regret that we learn of the great loss that the Empire has sustained in the death of Lord Balfour.

“Jewry the world over will mourn the irreparable loss of one who has ever been beloved by them. His Biblical inspiration created a vision which through his perseverance and loyalty has become a reality. The fulfillment of so beautiful an ideal has only been made possible through the Balfour Declaration, the corner stone in the reestablishment of the Jewish National Homeland. No name, Jewish or non-Jewish, will go down in the annals of Jewish history in the last two thousand years as will that of Lord Balfour.”
